State and Local Partners: Fair Housing Initiatives Program
Many state and local fair housing organizations receive funding and support from HUD to provide testing, education, and enforcement through HUD’s Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP). These local fair housing organizations do not process administrative complaints, but they may be able to provide information about fair housing laws or assist individuals with filing fair housing complaints with HUD or with state or local agencies. FHIPs commonly conduct preliminary investigations of fair housing claims, typically with the goal of resolving the claims or filing complaints or lawsuits. Such preliminary investigations can include fair housing testing.
You can find the names of and more information about your local HUD-certified FHIP organizations on the HUD website.
