Parents or families in dispute over parenting plans need support.
With support from the State Justice Institute, the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) offers the Families in Transition (FIT) Parenting Course—an innovative 1.5-hour online program designed to help parents strengthen communication and reduce conflict during times of family change. Whether parents are restructuring their co-parenting relationship or navigating complex family dynamics, FIT provides guidance to support children's well-being and family stability.
At the heart of the course is Tommy, an award-winning, internationally acclaimed short film produced by To Be Loved and created by experienced Barrister Darren Mort. The film powerfully depicts the emotional toll of conflict through a child’s eyes, helping parents recognize their impact and adopt healthier communication strategies. Paired with evidence-based interactive exercises, FIT fosters more effective parenting and childhood development.
Ongoing research by Arizona State University (December 2024) confirms FIT’s sustained effectiveness over time, validating its impact on reducing parental conflict and improving outcomes for children.
Beginning March 2025, NCSC will offer FIT as a case management tool for selected courts. At present, the FIT course is available only to parties ordered to the course in the State of Arizona.
Courts interested in implementing FIT can request consideration by contacting FIT@ncsc.org.
