Radio Script: Recap of Prior Activities
The engagements for both of Puerto Rico’s youth groups and the San Lorenzo group were split into two separate sessions over a period of two days. The news story activity was only used when Puerto Rico had two sessions, and only used in the context of the second sessions. For this activity, the Puerto Rico team created fictional radio news stories that summarized the first sessions’ activities and progress.
The radio news stories were an entertaining way to re-orient and engage participants back to the topics of discussion and their importance to the community. Participants listened to the imaginary radio capsule to remember what happened in the first meeting. This also provided those who did not participate in the first dialogue an opportunity to find out what they had missed.
- Instructions
Community engagement participants were instructed to imagine that, after the first session, there was a radio report summarizing what happened in the first session. They listened to the radio capsule and afterwards discussed whether the news report was accurate. - Audio
The engagement facilitators had created a script and audio recording based on the first meetings. Specifically, they created and read the script, or had actors read the script, as if they were radio announcers, and recorded the audio so it could be played at the second engagements. - Discussion
In the student group, the audio was paused in the middle to have the students answer questions to confirm their comprehension of the information and keep the exercise interactive. At the end of the audio, both the student and adult groups were asked if they thought the audio summarized what happened during the first engagement. During the discussion, the participants indicated if they felt anything needed to be added or clarified in the summary.
