Congratulations, you have completed the Ability to Pay Judicial Curriculum!
By now you should have a basic understanding of the impact of court debt, the importance of ability to pay assessments and how you might conduct one to waive or reduce the assigned legal financial obligations, and how alternative sanctions can further the goal of finding equitable solutions to impose consequences that show the individual is rehabilitated and address public safety concerns.
We hope that you are thinking about how to improve or implement ability to pay assessments. NCSC is available to help. You can schedule a time to work with NCSC and discuss any of the topics discussed in this curriculum and get help to implement the strategies included.
Please continue to refer to the Fines, Fees and Pretrial Practices 2.0 Resource Center for new and updated guidance.
Thank you, and good luck!
