The National Center for State Courts, in conjunction with the Conference of Chief Justices and Conference of State Court Administrators, raises awareness on key issues that affect the courts, and provides education and information on ways that state courts can support and protect justice.
Your gift supports our mission-to promote the rule of law and improve the administration of justice in state courts and internationally-and it’s never been more relevant. With your support, initiatives that NCSC is prioritizing include:
- Racial Justice Initiatives
NCSC’s national initiative –the Blueprint for Racial Justice –launched in 2021 to take immediate and recognizable steps toward improving racial justice, equity and inclusion in the justice system. The Blueprint’s goal is to ensure that all court users, litigants, and community members across the country are heard, listened to, and respected by the nation’s justice system. - Eviction Diversion
A surge in eviction cases is likely coming, and state and local courts will be on the frontlines. NCSC is developing a variety of resources for courts, attorneys, and the public. More information can be found here. - Civil Justice Backlog/Caseflow Management
Courts saw dramatic decreases in new civil case filings as lawyers and litigants also dealt with more immediate concerns about the pandemic. But while new cases were not being filed, neither were existing cases being resolved. The net impact is still a large backlog of civil cases waiting for judges and court staff as they resume slightly more normal court operations. NCSC is providing tools and resources to make sure courts are efficiently and effectively operating as they manage this backlog. - Behavioral Health Initiatives
NCSC’s behavioral health initiatives are leading change by diverting cases from the court system and getting people with mental health issues out of jails and into community services that can address their mental health needs. More information can be found here. - Children & Families Initiatives
The Cady Initiative for Family Justice is guiding courts toward improved outcomes for families while managing costs, controlling delays and facilitating healthy outcomes. The Cady Initiative sets forth a model that draws upon data-informed strategies to assist the resolution of family matters. More information can be found here. - Rapid Response Team Support
In March 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Conference of Chief Justices and Conference of State Court Administrators established a Rapid Response Team (RRT), staffed by NCSC, that created a roadmap to help state courts move forward during the pandemic – and after it ends.
