January 19, 2024 -- Since 2006, Gavel to Gavel has tracked state-by-state legislative activity with potential impact on state courts.
New and active legislation includes:
- Local/Municipal Courts:
- Utah looks to extend its Justice Court Reform Task into 2026;
- Missouri may abolish their Municipal Courts; and
- Georgia looks to increase the terms of judges from one to two years.
- Judicial Compensation:
- Georgia looks to create a Compensation Commission;
- New Mexico may tie salaries to the Consumer Price Index; and
- Iowa and Wyoming look to judges to increase the contributions they make to their judicial retirement systems.
- Judicial Retirement Ages:
- Missouri bill would increase the state’s mandatory retirement age from 70 to 75; and
- Oklahoma bill looks to impose a mandatory judicial retirement age of 75.
