Virgin Islands court administrator to lead two national court organizations
Williamsburg, Va. (Aug. 19, 2024) – Regina deChabert Petersen, administrator of courts of the Virgin Islands Judiciary, has been named president of the Conference of State Court Administrators (COSCA) and vice chair of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) Board of Directors.
Both one-year terms began earlier this month during COSCA’s annual conference and NCSC’s Board of Directors meetings in Sunriver, Oregon.
COSCA is comprised of the chief executives of the court systems in each state, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. The conference is committed to strengthening the judicial branch by improving the quality of state courts and increasing the public’s trust and confidence in the justice system. It works closely with the Conference of Chief Justices on issues of mutual interest.
“Strong leadership from state court administrators is vital for delivering fair and equal justice,” said Mary C. McQueen, president of the National Center for State Courts. “Regina’s insights and experience will help us identify new ways for courts to positively impact the communities they serve.”
Petersen was appointed administrator of courts for the Virgin Islands Judiciary in 2016. Previously, she served as the administrative director of the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands and spent nine years as a director in the Virgin Islands’ Department of Justice’s Paternity and Child Support Division.
Petersen earned an undergraduate degree from DePauw University and a juris doctor from Notre Dame University Law School.
